14.  A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

We have seen the snare of the tongue. Here is its blessing, not to others (Chapter 10:20, 21) only, but to ourselves. Have we the mark of “the saints of God, to speak of the glory of his Kingdom”? (Psalm 145:10, 11.) What a dignity will this grand subject give to our conversation! What a preservative from that frivolous “talk of the lips, which tendeth only to penury!” (Chapter 14:23.) What a tone of elevation to our whole character! (Malachi 3:16, 17.) How shall we be satisfied with good by the fruit of our consecrated lips! (Chapter 13:2; 15:23.) When our God becomes, not our visitor, but our inmate, the fruit of our mouth is no constrained effort, but “out of the abundance of the heart.”
From the devotedness of the lips flows the ready exercise of the hands. Every member of the body is his purchased possession. (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20.) And here also is a sure recompense. For who ever served God “for nought?” (Job 1:9, 10.) “He is not unrighteous to forget our work and labour of love. A cup of cold water given to a disciple in his name shall in no wise lose its reward.” (Hebrews 6:10. Matthew 10:42.) The meanest exercise of love will be abundantly and eternally recompensed.

Proverbs 10:20, 21
20 ¶ The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. 21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. {of wisdom: Heb. of heart}

Psalm 145:10, 11
10 ¶ All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. 11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;

Proverbs 14:23
23 ¶ In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

Malachi 3:16, 17
16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. 17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. {jewels: or, special treasure}

Proverbs 13:2
2 ¶ A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Proverbs 15:23
23 ¶ A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! {due...: Heb. his season}

1 Corinthians 6:19, 20
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Job 1:9, 10
9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? 10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. {substance: or, cattle}

Hebrews 6:10
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Matthew 10:42
42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
