Inclusion of a hymn in these “May-also-be-appropriate” sections did not require that the entire hymn match that category. Some hymns have multiple themes, and if a significant line or stanza matched a certain category designation, it was included. For example in hymn # 580 the third stanza says: “My sin, O the Bliss of this glorious thought! My sin not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!” Thus, this hymn could easily be a good choice in the “Forgivness of Sins” category, and yet also be listed under “Thankfulness”, “Consolation”, “the Lord's Supper”, “His Death”, “His Praise”, etc. etc. A later stanza refers to the second coming, so it likewise can be put into that category.
The idea of making these “May-also-be-appropriate” suggestions did not occur until well into the project, so the earlier hymns will have many less in number. If you think a certain hymn should be added to a certain category, please send an email.
