These are early tapes, and are made available with a solemn caution & warning to all who might hear them: at this point in time Pastor Martin was “agnostic” regarding the office of “deaconess.” Message 81 on the previous page has his more mature thinking on this issue – where he is persuasively convinced that “the women” of 1 Timothy 3:11 were non-office-bearing assistants to the male office-bearers, who vicariously performed diaconal labors on their behalf in situations where it would be more appropriate for females to implement them.
